Truro and Falmouth Green Open Homes Week

Have you sat in front of Grand Designs and fantasied about building your own eco home but not known where to start? Have you been considering installing a log burner this winter but wanted to get some first-hand advice and a recommendation from someone whose opinion you trust first? Have you thought about making the most of the Cornish sunshine by installing a solar hot water or PV system but wanted an independent account of how much energy and money it would really save you?

Building on the success of their events earlier in the summer, community energy group Truro Eco Energy and Fal Energy Partnership are working together to deliver the Truro and Falmouth Green Open Homes Week, running from October 5th to October 11th and where green homes, businesses and other buildings from across the Truro and Falmouth areas will open their doors to people keen to find out more about energy efficiency, renewable technologies and sustainable building materials.

Former Mayor of Truro, and event organiser, Lindsay Southcombe, said, “We know lots of people across the county are interested in making low-carbon changes to their homes but are put off by pushy sales patter or simply need more information about the options out there. By speaking to someone who has ‘been there and done it’, local people can get a better understanding of the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures and ask questions about any challenges or hurdles that hosts might have experienced along the way. We are delighted that this time round we have not only added more hosts but are also able to showcase a fantastic local green business – Carley’s of Cornwall – and the ‘Jungle Shed’ green building exemplar at the University of Exeter campus at Penryn, both of whom will be running tours for people interested in finding out more about larger-scale green renovations and self-builds.”

The Green Open Homes events are funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, and delivered by the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) in partnership with Bristol Green Doors. We are also delighted that local business, Wattstor, providers of high-quality and sustainable renewable energy storage and management systems, have agreed to sponsor the event.
