Top 5 Picnic Spots

The approaching warmer weather of spring and summer can only mean one thing – it’s time to unleash the picnic blankets! 2015 Cornwall Home & Lifestyle Show exhibitors Atlantic Blankets have collated their favourite picnic spots around Cornwall so you can enjoy the very best alfresco dining, matched with the very best picnic blankets.

1 – Minack Theatre
Located at Porthcurno, 4 miles from Lands End, the views from this historic location are simply stunning on a sunny day. Tuck into your sandwiches overlooking the picturesque bay of Porthcurno beach, and you might even see a seal or a basking shark in the water below.

Atlantic Blankets Recommend – “The super stylish Traditional Tartan Picnic Blanket, you’ll fit in with the surroundings beautifully.”

2 – Camel Trail
The famous cycle trail that links Padstow, Wadebridge and Bodmin together. Take a walk or a cycle along all, or part of the 18-mile trail, and be spoilt for choice for ideal picnic locations. You can pick a secluded spot along the riverside, or just off the beaten track of the trail.

Atlantic Blankets Recommend – “Our Kiwi Green Picnic Blanket as it comes with handles, which make it ideal for attaching to a rucksack or bike. With its waterproof backing it means you can dine wherever you hearts desire as you can lay this blanket down on any surface.”

3 – Port Isaac
The perfect picturesque village to enjoy a picnic. Whether you choose the beach, a bench or a field on the cliff top you will have stunning views of this iconic village. The area is the filming location for the hit TV show Doc Martin as well as being home to the band Fishermen’s Friends.

Atlantic Blankets Recommend – “A warm Random Rug to set up your picnic on the beach. If you choose the right evening you might get some free entertainment as the popular band Fishermen’s Friends, often perform to the locals here. So you can snuggle up under your rug and enjoy the sea shanties.”

4 – Porth Joke Beach
Located approximately 5 miles from Newquay, and situated in-between Crantock beach and Hollywell Bay, it is often overlooked. This beach known as Poly Joke to the locals is an un-spoilt sandy oasis, the perfect place to enjoy a quiet picnic. The beach has caves and rock-pools for the kiddies to explore, as well as being a dog friendly beach, meaning it is suitable for all the family.

Atlantic Blankets Recommend –  “Our Coastal Tartan Picnic Blanket would fit perfectly with the location and is also very practical with waterproof backing, leather straps and luxurious soft wool to layback and relax on.”

5 – Tehidy Woods
An epic woodland to explore. After you’ve worked up an appetite, head over to the picnic location and refuel before hitting the woodland trails again. Look out for squirrels stealing your sandwiches though!

Atlantic Blankets Recommend –  “Our Fleece Picnic Blanket, which is simply practical and perfect! Lined with a waterproof bottom you don’t need to worry about the muddy woods – plus its easy to pop in the wash at the end of your adventure.”
