A Home Is For Life – Not Just For Christmas!
The party season has just begun and your family and friends will be arriving soon, so here’s some of our favorite tips and tricks to help you make your house into a home this Christmas and beyond.
Have a home you’re proud to show off with these easy home improvements.
Personal Touches
The most important aspect of making a house a home is making it personal. Include items in your home that have sentimental meanings, as this will make it unique to you, and you can enjoy all the memories that they bring. Other personal items, such as photographs from holidays or family members, will give your home an identity. Homemade pieces, such as art projects and hobbies can be displayed to show your character.
Floor Fashion
Wooden floors can look great, but at this time of the year we want to inject some warmth back into the room. Bare floors can make a floor feel empty and cold, but a great way to change this is by simply adding textures and fabrics. Rugs are a great way to not only add warmth under foot but create a focal point for the room. A focal point helps to bring all the elements of the room together. Rugs can be added to carpeted floors as well as wooden floors, and they come in an abundance of fabrics and patterns so you’ll be sure to find one to match your style.
Love Your Lighting
Want to make a floor look and feel warmer? This can easily be achieved by adding some strategic lighting. To create this we want to have less emphasis on overhead lighting so swap your harsh overhead bulb with a softer light at a lower height in the room. Experiment with table or free standing lamps as these allow you to control where you want to light – creating different spaces around the room.
Bring Outside In
Don’t be afraid to add elements from outside, inside. Add shells in the bathroom and pinecones in the living room to help create a serene and tranquil natural environment. Bring theses earthy tones in on fabrics such as cushions and throws, to compliment your surroundings. This colour palette makes the space warmer, cosier and more inviting, creating a space for the whole family to relax and enjoy.
We hope these tips have helped you get inspired to make your house a home just in time for Christmas.
