Cornish Traditional Cottages – Our Story

Cornish Traditional Cottages was started in 1964 by Michael and Dawn Powell when a cottage in Padstow presented a perfect opportunity to renovate and let out to friends. This was to be one of many, and one of their earliest conversions. This was Trenale Court at Tintagel, which is still part of the company’s collection.

Charles Edward-Collins returned to Cornwall in 1983 having left the army and from 1987 worked as General Manager at CTC whilst still actively farming the small family estate on the edge of Bodmin Moor. He acquired the business on Michael’s retirement in 1990. Charles converted a redundant barn on his family farm and the business moved from Lostwithiel into the newly converted office in 1997.

After 19 years at the helm in 2009, Charles decided to step aside to allow his daughter, son in law and son to develop the company for the future.

Over the last 51 years the company has adapted with the times to ensure that the needs of its owners and customers are met and exceeded. We have our roots firmly in Cornwall and have learnt a great deal about holiday letting, what holidaymakers look for and how best to engage with those holidaymakers to give our owners the best opportunity of achieving the highest occupancy rate and repeat business.

In April 2013 we started to use Feefo, an independent customer feedback review site, and have achieved Gold trusted status meaning that 98% of our customers rated our customer service as either good or excellent. On top of this we achieved our Quality Accredited Agency status through Visit England in 2014 that annually assess the business on their customer service to their owners and holidaymakers.
