Air Source Heating Levels the Playing Field for Off-Gas Customers…

Gas central heating has been the most cost-effective way to heat a home for many years. Unfortunately, off-gas areas litter Cornwall. Homeowners without a gas connection have been forced to heat through more costly means.

Until now, customers living in off-gas areas have had limited options available to them. Oil, LPG and direct electric the most commonly installed heat sources. However, each alternative all-but-guarantees higher running costs and inconvenience.

Air source heating provides customers in off-gas areas with running costs comparable to mains gas, along with numerous other benefits.

– Reduced Running Costs

Air source heat pumps offer comparable running costs to gas heating. When compared to oil, LPG or direct electric, an air source system can provide an annual saving of up to 50%.

– No Gas Connection Needed

Air source heat pumps run off electricity but output 4 times the energy they consume. As a result, this makes them highly efficient.

A heat pump requires no gas connection which makes them the ideal heating solution for anybody without the benefit of a gas connection.

– No Fuel Delivery

Electricity powers air source heat pumps. As such, heating and hot water supply is automatic. This eliminates the need for regular fuel deliveries that are part-and-parcel of oil or LPG heating.

Removing the need for deliveries increases user comfort, ideal for elder customers, properties with access restrictions or rental properties.

– Situated Outside and Permitted Development Rights

Installed externally, air source heat pumps connect to internal central heating and hot water systems. This helps free up space by removing the existing boiler and fuel store.

Furthermore, heat pump installations fall within Permitted Development Rights. PDR status means air source systems can be fitted without acquiring planning approval.

– Carbon Reduction

Oil and LPG heating systems are among the most harmful to the environment.

By replacing such a heating system with a renewable alternative, air source heat pumps reduce a home’s carbon footprint significantly – usually by a number of tonnes each year.

– Government Incentive – The Renewable Heat Incentive

In their push to lower the UK’s carbon outputs as a result of heating, the government initiated the Renewable Heat Incentive to provide a financial incentive to homeowners switching to renewable heating.

Air source heat pumps installed by an MCS approved company are eligible for 7 years of RHI payments. Air source heat pump installations earn RHI payments total £250 to £1500 a year.
